Should dating be available on prescription?

"What if your doctor said: 'You need companionship. I'm prescribing you a date.' It sounds provocative. A bit crazy. But is it really? On February 14, 2026, we're participating in the debate in Expressen: Single life is expensive. Very expensive. Not just for the individual. Not just for the wallet. But for society as a whole. Read the opinion piece here.

Should dating be available on prescription?

Being single – a lifestyle or a cost?

We often talk about freedom when we talk about single life. But less often about the cost of it. One person pays the entire rent, the entire electricity bill, the entire grocery shopping. Economically it's simple: it's more expensive to be one than two.

But it's not just about money, because research shows that involuntary loneliness affects both mental and physical health. It affects productivity. It affects security. It affects quality of life.

And in a time of economic uncertainty and growing mental illness, is involuntary single life really a private matter?

When we lost the meeting places

In the past, people met through friends, associations, and workplaces. Today, much happens on mobile phones. Sure, the apps made dating efficient. But efficient isn't the same as working well.

That's why more and more people today are searching for something else and a more genuine experience:

  • how to meet singles without apps
  • activities for singles in Stockholm
  • singles events Stockholm
  • mingles for singles

And it's not 'because everything was better in the past'. It's a longing for something that feels more real.

Dating as public health?

We already prescribe physical activity and talk therapy. Why don't we talk as openly about companionship? Companionship is security. Context. Social training. Faith in the future. So maybe 'dating on prescription' isn't literal. But perhaps it's a signal that companionship isn't a luxury.

A new way to meet – IRL

More and more people today are choosing something other than swiping. They're choosing cooking, dance after-work, padel, wine tasting, and escape rooms. When the focus is on the activity, the pressure eases. You do something you enjoy. And meet someone you like.

That's why MinglMe exists

MinglMe was created to make it easier to meet singles in real life.

You see other singles digitally. You book the same activity. You meet IRL.

It's activity dating. It's slow dating. It's a new way to meet singles in Stockholm.

Through singles events and activities for singles where all participants are in the same life phase. IRL activities like cooking, sports, quiz nights, or mingle evenings create natural conversations and reduce the performance pressure that often exists in traditional dating.

No. MinglMe is a social club for singles. The platform is used to find and book activities, but the actual meeting happens in real life through experiences and mingling.

Single people don't share housing and fixed costs with anyone else, which makes the financial burden higher per person. Involuntary loneliness can also affect health and the national economy.
